Dierry Jean Meets Seasoned Journeyman Francisco Lorenzo Tonight in Montreal
By GM Ross: Undefeated Montreal light welterweight Dierry Jean (19-0-0) will make the first ten round appearance of his career against Dominican journeyman Francisco Lorenzo (37-10-0) tonight at Montreal's Bell Centre. The contest is now the headliner of the GYM Promotions "Fast and Furious" card, due to the cancellation of Antonin Decarie's (25-1-0) much anticipated contest with Jose Luis Castillo (60-11-1).

This will be Jean's first fight of 2011, his last contest being a victory over Wilfredo Negron (26-15-1) in November 2010. Lorenzo has been more active, winning two of three contests in 2011. Both wins, however, came over fighters - Aneudy Mesa (0-11-1) and Juan Encarnacion (0-5-0) - with zeros for win columns. Lorenzo's other 2011 contest was a eight round, unanimous decision loss to Luis Ramos Jr. (18-0-0).
Lorenzo was once in the mix at 135, but at thirty-nine years of age one has to believe the Dominican's best days are behind him. He's faced some great opponents including Humberto Soto, Juan Diaz, Nate Campbell and Erik Morales. He even holds victories over Campbell and Soto, the latter being on a DQ. Lorenzo's record over his last ten fights, however, is a woeful 4-5-0, with one no contest. This is somewhat deceiving as Lorenzo's recent losses came against a high level of opposition. The last five men to defeat Lorenzo combine for a staggering 129-7-3 record. None of these men stopped Lorenzo. In fact, in forty-eight professional fights, Lorenzo has never suffered a knockout. It looks like the Dominican will be a durable, but ultimately beatable, opponent for Jean's first fight of 2011.
