Mark de Mori vs. Matt Hicks on November 20th

By Brendan George: They say good things come to those who wait. It will be interesting to see if that old adage proves to be correct on Sunday November 20th 2011 when Australian fight fans will witness the long awaited return of Perth's Mark "The Dominator" de Mori. The Don King promoted boxer who holds a 16 wins, 1 loss, 2 draw record with 14 knockouts, is facing Tennessee's Matt Hicks over 10 rounds at the Cockburn Basketball Centre. The international Heavyweight contest will end a two year hiatus from the ring, with de Mori having suffered promotional and injury issues. "I can't wait to get back in the ring and put on a great show for my loyal supporters," de Mori stated. "I've been out of the ring for two years and I can't wait to take out all my frustration on Matt Hicks".

The man who will be looking across the ring at de Mori on the night is the 6’4 giant known as "Hurricane" Hicks. The Tennessee giant enters the bout sporting a record of 13 wins and 6 losses, with 12 wins by way of knockout. "I'm traveling all the way over to Perth to end the career of Mark de Mori," quipped Hicks. "To be honest, I had never heard of him, but I know one thing is for certain, he is in a lot of trouble". The former professional footballer tops the scales at an imposing 120kg and has stated: "I've watched a lot of Mark's fights on YouTube. He does some impressive things in the ring. But I think he makes some mistakes that I will be able to use to my advantage. I'm coming over to knock him out, I don't see the point in going the distance".

Also headlining a stellar undercard is Perth's Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne. The 6’4 wrecking ball who tips the scales at 120kg is undefeated with 8 victories, with 7 coming inside the scheduled distance. Browne's opponent is currently in the final stages of negotiations, but there is a distinct possibility that whoever it is will not see the final bell.

The undercard features an array of local talent including the second half of the "Bruise Brothers," Eric de Mori. The Light Heavyweight slugger looks to rebound from one years' absence against an opponent yet to be determined. "It's always been a dream of mine to fight on the same card as my brother. I'm chomping at the bit and really training hard. It's going to be a night to remember," he said.

The card also features local boxers Xavier "X-Man" Lucas, Ricardo Monteleone, Glen Austin and Luke Sharp. With local Heavyweights Colin McKean and Grant Hollwood also meeting on the card this truly is the night of the big men.
