Promoter Oscar De La Hoya is amongst those who are pumped up for the bout, "The Golden Boy" going as far as to predict "another Gatti-Ward type of trilogy." The fight may not last ten rounds, more like two or three heated sessions, but the action promises to be so good, maybe a return meeting will happen.
Kirkland is no stranger to quick endings (win or lose), but he says he is ready for 20 rounds in this one!
"I've trained for a brutal combat fight," the southpaw said. " I'm prepared to bring heat for twenty rounds. If he can take it."
Indeed. This fight is sure to be about who can take the better shot, and for how long. Judging by the last performance by both men, this looks like being Angulo. Still, only a fool would write Kirkland off.
Angulo certainly rates his rival, dusting that "when you fight a guy like a James Kirkland, it should be worth something." Angulo wishes a world title were on the line in Mexico. As it is, the stakes in the elimination bout are high enough.
"Don't blink," and "whoever lands first wins," seem to be the two comments most in use with regards to Saturday's possible FOTY candidate.
What else is there to add but, enjoy the fight! I'm picking Kirkland to upset the odds, but he may well have to get up from a knock down or two to come through.
