Heavyweight Legend "Smokin'" Joe Frazier "Deathly Ill With Liver Cancer"

by James Slater: In sad and unexpected news, it has been reported that heavyweight legend Joe Frazier is seriousy ill with advanced liver cancer.A source close to the 67-year-old, who held the world title from 1968 to 1973, told The New York Post Joe is "in serious shape. We're looking for a miracle. They're only giving him a short time to live. We need to have as many people as possible praying for Joe right now."

Despite his ferocious ring battles - against the likes of Muhammad Ali in an unforgettable trilogy, George Foreman and Jerry Quarry - Frazier was thought to be in reasonable shape these days. Walking with a cane and needing medication for high blood pressure aside, Joe's poor eyesight seemed to be his main ailment. This news really has come out of the blue.

A hugely popular man, in and out of the ring, you would be hard pressed to find a fight fan with anything but good things to say about the Philly great who also captured an Olympic gold medal. Many times during his still-ongoing feud with arch-rival Ali, "Smoke," as he likes to be called, proclaimed how he would "defintely out-live him." Now, tragically, both Joe and Muhammad are in desperate physical condition.

As Joe's friend who spoke with The New York Post said, we must all pray for "Smokin'" Joe right now.
