Cotto vs. Margarito: Another Thriller Coming Our Way!

By Sevak Sarkisian: As fight fans we were treated to a thrilling and grueling fight this weekend on HBO. Fans have probably come to the conclusion that the most exciting fight of the year has already taken place. However in my humble opinion I believe there’s a good chance the most fan friendly fight of the year is soon to be. No, I am not talking about the intriguing rubber match between legends Marquez and Pacquiao taking place this weekend. The fight I have on my mind is the re-match between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito taking place on Dec 3rd at Madison Square Garden!

Fight Fans will never forget the war those two gave us in July of 07 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The re-match is expected to be another entertaining fight by the general public, and it should be. We as fans know “styles make fights”, and this intriguing re-match features a great clash of styles. Margarito always fights by throwing punches in bunches while constantly coming forward applying immense pressure. Cotto on the other hand loves to slowly stalk his opponents and does not generally fight well going backwards, although possessing better skills then Margarito.

Undoubtedly this fight posses a huge test for both fighters, they both have their work cut out for them. However I must say the stylistic advantage goes to Margarito. I say this because of the fact that Cotto feels uncomfortable fighting backwards and we all know that’s what he’s going to have to do in this fight. In the first fight Cotto got tired and broken down, he will have to be in top physical form to withstand the pace he’s going to be fighting at. With all of that said, I pick him to win the re-match by decision.
