Gary Russell JR: The Hottest Prospect of 2011?
By Sevak Sarkisian: This past Saturday, boxing fans were treated to three showcase fights that included three of some of the world’s hottest prospects in separate bouts. All three of the prospects managed to finish there fights in impressive fashion. However, one of them managed to catch my attention a little bit more then the rest.
His name is Gary Russell JR. This past weekend he scored a devastating knockout in the 1st round over the over-matched veteran, Heriberto Ruiz. Russell JR offers fans a unique blend of remarkable speed and accurate punching. Last night, Gary not only showed that he has these attributes but he also showed us he can provide devastating knockouts when he wants to.
Russell Jr. also possesses good defensive reflexes but at the same time doesn’t fight overly defensive. Due to these reasons he is a fighter that fight fans would like to watch. He is a world class fighter that brings excitement as well as skill. He certainly has potential to become a title holder at featherweight after a few more fights.
However, as of now he does lack the fan base as some of the other top prospects in the sport such as his stable mate Saul Alvarez. but hopefully that will change as he continues to win in exciting fashion. One thing is for sure, Golden Boy has a great prospect under their guidance.
