By JM Siasat: PARANAQUE CITY, Philippines – Rated number five Philippine bantamweight Monico Laurente of the Johnny Elorde boxing stable has won the main event of the traditional pre-Christmas “Boxing Kontra Droga” card when opponent Adelino Balongcas retired in his corner before the start of round seven improving his record to 21W-7L, 5KO’s.
It was all Laurente since round one as he displayed good boxing skills by jabbing and slipping making Balongcas lose his balance when throwing his power shots. Laurente made calculated moves, going to the body and attacking the head when there’s an opening dropping Balongcas once in round six.
“The plan is to get him a regional title next year” said his promoter and manager Johnny Elorde. “If there will be a chance to fight for the Philippine bantamweight championship then we will go for it” added Elorde.
Laurente expressed his satisfaction of the victory during my post fight locker interview “I wasn’t troubled with his southpaw stance. I trained to fight a southpaw and it hasn’t bothered me at all”.
The co-main event featured Ryan Origenes dominating a game Vic Racuma to win by Unanimous Decision.
