Tarver Special Guest On NBC's "The Contender"

LOS ANGELES, March 25 – Boxing superstar Antonio "Magic Man" Tarver captivated the boxing world in 2004 with his rise to prominence against the odds. On Sunday, March 27 at 8pm (ET/PT) 7pm (CT), Tarver will impart his wisdom to the 12 remaining boxers on NBC’s new reality series “The Contender” when he appears on the show as a special guest star..

“I’ve been through all the struggles that the fight game can throw at you, and I’ve prevailed,” said Tarver, one of the premier light heavyweights in the world today. “I’m honored to be able to share my story and help the remaining boxers on “The Contender” to achieve their dreams in the ring.” “I’d like to thank the fans for all their continued support, and I assure them that 2005 will be my greatest year ever. Boxing world, look out, because the “Magic Man” is going to make all opponents disappear.”

ABOUT THE CONTENDER

"The Contender" follows 16 professional boxers as they come to a training camp to follow their dream of becoming a champion boxer. The driving force behind the series will be the pursuit of the American dream and the natural trials, tribulations and heartbreak inherent in that quest. The canvas of the show gives viewers a first hand look into the real life hopes, triumphs and defeats of the contestants and how this single-minded, consuming commitment affects their families.

The final two boxers will fight live at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on May 24th for one-million dollars and the chance to change their lives and the lives of the people they love forever.
