Saul Alvarez to fight on Cotto-Mayweather undercard on May 5th on HBO PPV
By Michael Collins: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KO’s) may not have lucked out and gotten the big paying fight with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5th, but he will be fighting on the undercard of the fight against an opponent to be determined, according to Oscar de La Hoya.

De La Hoya said this on his twitter page on Wednesday “I have a few options for Canelo on May 5th. Who do you think.”
Hmm…Well, I suppose De La Hoya can fish out Shane Mosley for Alvarez to look good against and have a excellent chance of beat. In analyzing kind of opponents they’ve been feeding Alvarez, he’s being matched against less than threatening opponents.
It’s doubtful that Golden Boy will make any big changes just for this card, so Mosley would have to be a high choice. After Mosley, it gets kind of confusing because there are a lot weak options that can be selected for Alvarez but not ones where boxing fans would give a fig about seeing the fights.
Unless they’re willing to take some slight risks, Alvarez will probably have to be matched against a complete unknown fighter; that is, if 40-year-old Mosley doesn’t get picked out for him and I think that’s who it will be. Mosley is shot enough for Alvarez to beat and look good against. If Mosley was young, he’d beat Alvarez black and blue but Mosley has really lost a lot in the past few years and is very beatable if you can survive three rounds.
I’d like to see some one of these fighters against Alvarez:
But the fighters we’ll probably see Alvarez in with are from this list:
