Dannie Williams ready for big opportunity

By Anthony Ivey: Dannie Williams has had his share of amateur accolades which include a national golden gloves title, and the WBC's Continental lightweight strap as a professional. On March 30th on ESPN's Friday Night Fights, he gets the opportunity to take his career to another level. "I feel great about this opportunity", states Williams (20-1, 17 KO's).

" I have this really good energy I am feeling right now." That night he'll be swapping leather with "Hammerin" Hank Lundy for the NABF Lightweight Championship and the opportunity to position himself for a title shot.Williams, originally from St. Louis, fights out of Jack Loew's Southside Boxing Club in Youngstown, Ohio. "It's easy to work with Dannie because he wants to acheive, states Loew. "I honestly believe he'll stop Lundy within seven rounds. Williams echoes his trainers sentiments. "I'm prepared to go the distance, but I am looking to knock him out. I'll come out hard from the first round testing his heart."

Lundy, 21-1-1 with 11 KO's to his credit, is no one to look past. The currrent NABF champion is coming off an impressive knockout victory over former world champion David Diaz. "I have watched tapes of him a couple of times,"explains Williams. " He does have good head movement, but I don't really see anything else he has that could cause me trouble." Williams also makes a promise to the fans watching worlwide that night. "The folks at home don't want to miss this, Fourth of July is coming early this year," states Williams. "I'd like to thank my trainer Jack Loew, my promotional team Rumble Time Promotions and Dibella Entertainment for believing in me. I will come out on top on March 30th."
