Floyd “Money” Mayweather-Saul “Canelo” Alvarez: A Super-Fight Coming Near You Soon!
By James Slater: Though he is only 21-years-old and is still fully growing into being a “world” champion, unbeaten Mexican sensation Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has repeatedly claimed he is ready “to fight the best.” Right now, the best in boxing is Floyd Mayweather Junior, and if (when) “Money” gets past Miguel Cotto on May 5th (and after the 42-0 superstar has served his time in prison, beginning June 1st), you can see it coming a mile off: Mayweather Vs. Alvarez next Cinco de Mayo weekend.

This one would be absolutely massive, and right now the only possible bump in the road that would prevent the gazillion dollar “Good guy (Alvarez) Vs. Bad guy (Mayweather)” showdown from taking place would be the ageing but still possibly dangerous Sugar Shane Mosley somehow upsetting Canelo in a little over three weeks time. If Alvarez, 39-0-1(29) does as he’s expected to do, however, and not only beats Mosley, but maybe even by stoppage, the stage will certainly be set for the super-fight of super fights.
Mayweather, in a brief interview with ESPN.com over the weekend, said he is interested in facing Alvarez one day: “Canelo is a good young fighter, I think he needs to get more experience under his belt, then down the line, yes he can get his shot,” Floyd said.
Will the fight with Mosley, the man that appeared to have came so close to hurting Floyd bad when the two welterweights met a couple of years ago, in that exciting 2nd-round, provide Canelo with the added experience Mayweather says the young megastar needs? If so, and unless Mayweather decides to shoot for history by taking on “universally accepted” middleweight king Sergio Gabriel Martinez next instead, the fight that would pit the old master against the young lion could be upon us next year.
If we thought Mayweather-Cotto sold out fast (and it sure did, the “cheap” tickets in something like a few minutes flat!), imagine how much fan interest Mayweather-Alvarez would get - with or without a decent under-card. Imagine also, how many thousands upon thousands of Mexican fight fans would invade Las Vegas (the probable venue the fight would take place at, without a doubt) to see their hero - the man Oscar De La Hoya has said can become THE best Mexican fighter ever - rumble with “bad guy” Floyd!
Vegas has had some truly exciting fights nights over the years, when the place simply buzzed - Mayweather Vs. Alvarez would make the place rock! Get saving up for those tickets now, though, because this fight (and I’m sure it will happen) will not be cheap; in any sense of the word.
