Quartey vs Pavlik...Will Ike Get Iced?

06.04.05 - Jim Amato: Rumor has it that Ike Quartey's next comeback bout may be against Youngstown, Ohio's undefeated Kelly Pavlik. In his prime Ike was an excellent fighter. I'll always remember his memorable wars with Jose Luis Lopez and then prime time Oscar De La Hoya and Fernando Vargas. That was a long time ago. A bout with Pavlik at this stage of Ike's comeback could be a crucial mistake..

I've met Kelly on a few occasions. He is a nice young man who appears to have his head on right. More then that though is the fact that he can fight ! He is tall and rangy and carries tremendous punching power. He also has a solid amatuer backround that includes bouts with Jermaine Taylor and Tony Hanshaw. The only thing that has held Kelly back in his career thus far is problems with his hands. It appears that he punches too hard for his own good.

I like Ike but I feel he will make a mistake if he takes this fight. At the same time I hope it comes off because Quartey's name will look good on Kelly's record of conquests.
