13.12.03 - By Elliot Worsell: WBO Cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson, fresh off a comprehensive win over Alexander Petkovic in Germany, filled in on what his plans are for next year during a recent trip to Bethnal Green’s York Hall.
36-year-old Nelson, who has made 11 successful defences of the WBO title he won back in March 1999 when stopping fierce rival Carl Thompson in 5 rounds, is a real road warrior of British boxing, having fought in Germany, Denmark, South Africa, Belgium, Australia, Thailand, Brazil and the US. After a patchy start to his professional career (losing his first three fights) Nelson, who had to take many risky fights at short notice during his formative years as a pro, is reaping the rewards of being a respected champion and has been unbeaten since 1995.
