From the office of WBC President Dr. José Sulaimán: The WBC super welterweight Diamond Belt will be at stake in the highly-anticipated fight between superstars Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Mayweather, 42-0 with 26 knockouts, has held WBC world championships in five weight divisions - 130, 135, 140, 147 and 154 pounds. Cotto, 37-2 with 30 knockouts, started his great career as a WBC International super lightweight champion – he won the title in June, 2003, and made four successful title defenses.
The only boxers to have won the prestigious WBC Diamond Belt are Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, and Sergio Martinez.
