Forbes Most Influential Athletes Of 2012: Manny Pacquiao At #4; The Only Boxer On List

By James Slater: For Manny Pacquiao you can chalk up another outside the ring victory over would-be ring rival Floyd Mayweather Junior. Just released, Forbes most influential athletes of 2012 list has Pac-Man ranked at number-four; Pacquiao being the only boxer present on the list.

Ironically, really, after fellow superstar Floyd “Money” May spoke about the power he has on his recent “Speaking Out” T.V show, is the fact that the self-proclaimed Pay-per-View king doesn’t feature on the list.

Pac-Man promoter Bob Arum, in speaking with Ringtv.com, said he is not surprised in the slightest that his fighter is ranked so high.

“It’s great,” Arum said. “It’s well-deserved. Manny Pacquiao is one of the most influential athletes in the world. I’ve never promoted anyone like him.”

That’s high praise from Arum, a man who has promoted, amongst others, Muhammad Ali and Roberto Duran. But Pac-Man’s influence is felt the world over, whereas Mayweather’s global impact is not as great - at least according to Forbes.

Here is the full top-10:

1: Jimmie Johnson, Nascar.

2: Tim Tebow, NFL.

3: Peyton Manning, NFL.

4: Manny Pacquiao, Boxing - what Forbes wrote “Influential: 20%. Like/Like a lot: 59%. Likeable boxing champ is a king among the Philippine population. The contrast with boxing “bad guy” Floyd Mayweather doesn’t hurt.”

5: Tom Brady, NFL.

6: Aaron Rodgers, NFL.

7: Dale Earnhard Junior, Nascar.

8: Drew Brees, NFL.

9: Eli Manning, NFL.

10: Jeremy Lin, NBA.

Far too many NFL athletes if you ask me, and shouldn’t David Beckham be in the ten somewhere?
