Ward vs. Dawson in the works
Vy Vitali Shaposhnikov: Ever since Oakland’s unbeaten super middleweight Andre Ward (25-0-0) held the trophy for coming out a winner in the Super 6 tourney, boxing fans have been anticipating and patiently waiting to hear what was next on Ward’s agenda.
Most had high hopes for Ward facing another unbeaten super middleweight Lucian Bute (30-0-0), but the fight never materialized. Instead, Bute is now facing a man who had lost to Ward in the Super 6 championship bout, Karl Froch (28-2-0). It’s a good fight for both men, and I think that the fans will also benefit form this match-up.
But where does this leave Ward? According to the champ himself, his team is no working on assembling a fight between Andre, and the recent Bernard Hopkins conqueror Chad Dawson (31-1-0). “I accept the challenge. We are trying to make the fight happen, and I will be ready to go when the fight does happen,” stated Ward in a recent interview with
Inside Fight Sports. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vAtQtDUL8NM
Ward seems enthusiastic about the fight, and says the fight would happen at 168lbs weight limit. Of the options available, and there aren’t many, I think this could come out to be a pretty good fight. Both men like to mix it up, and now that Dawson’s stock has gone up after beating Hopkins, his confidence must be thought the roof.
I am not entirely sure if the fight would be worth paying for, but if aired for free, I think it will bring a lot of boxing fans to their TV sets.
