Pacquiao's and Bradley's Base Purse Only $1,000,000 Apart?
By Vitali Shaposhnikov: Is it me, or is there something wrong with the following Tweet posed by The Ring this morning: “According to Nevada commission -- Pacquiao's base purse is $6 million, Bradley's, $5 million.” (https://twitter.com/#!/ringmagazine).
I am well aware that The Ring is a reliable source for everything boxing related, but this seems a little bit off center. Is this true? Is Manny Pacquiao’s base purse only one million dollars higher than that of Bradley’s?
I assume that Pacquiao will also collect a hefty profit from the PPV buys; nonetheless, this is an extremely low and embarrassing amount to be attached to Manny’s name. I didn’t want to bring up Mayweather Jr. in this article, but it’s very hard to avoid doing that for direct comparison. Without using exact figures, Manny’s base purse is a fraction of what Floyd’s was in his fight against Miguel Cotto, and probably most opponents for that matter.
What I would like to know, is simply what the catch is? Of course Arum will take a colossal chunk of Manny’s pay, still, there has to be something in the paperwork that would guarantee more money for Pacquiao.
As for Bradley, this is great news. This amount shows that he is a valued asset to boxing, and that there is much hope in his future.
