Shane Mosley retires
By Michael Collins: 40-year-old Shane Mosley has retired from boxing, according to reports from RingTV. The news isn't all that surprising given how badly Mosley was beaten last month in his losing effort against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez, who at 21 is the same age as Mosley's son. Mosley retires without having won a fight in three years since his victory over Antonio Margarito in January 2009.

Mosley's friend Hassan Abdulrahim told RingTV "Shane has officially retired, and he's going to go into the promotional side of the sport. Shane is going to be working with his son, who has a promising amateur career."
If this retirement sticks, Mosley will finish up with having captured world titles in three separate divisions. At lightweight, Mosley was virtually unbeatable, capturing the IBF lightweight crown and finishing that part of his career with a 31-0 record. Mosley moved up in weight to the welterweight division to pursue bigger paydays. However, had he stayed at lightweight, Mosley likely would have shined for many more years before he eventually suffered his first loss.
