Deontay Wilder Hammers Owen Beck, Improves To 23-0 - Time To Step Up?

By James Slater: "Bronze Bomber" Deontay Wilder did as expected on Saturday night, and bombed out shopworn former top contender Owen Beck. The tall and athletic Wilder showed his speed and power, as he sent Beck to the canvas four times in all, finally scoring a 3rd round corner retirement, Beck unable to come out for the 4th session.

Wilder, a genuine talent, if one who has been matched softly ever since turning pro, is now 23-0(23). "What The Heck," who has been on a downward slide for some time, is now 29-11 - Beck having now lost eight in a row.

Wilder put his man down in the opening round, again in the 2nd and then twice in the 3rd. Smashed to pieces as he was, the shot-looking Beck, a fighter who seems to have no punch resistance left at all, could not come out for the 4th. Wilder took a small - a very small - step up in class going in with Beck, who is experienced if nothing much else these days - but his latest win proved next to nothing.

Fans are excited and intrigued by Wilder, but they are losing patience. The skilled 26 year old needs a serious test and soon. At least Wilder is keeping himself busy and active. Wilder told fightnews.com that he plans to be back in action as soon as next month.

I don't know about you, but I'd love to see Wilder in there with a Tor Hamer, a Kevin Johnson or an Oliver McCall or a Michael Grant. But will Team-Wilder take anything close to such a risky fight in the coming months?
