Ricky Hatton Continues To Shed The Pounds, The Comeback Rumours Continue As A Result

By James Slater: Will he or won’t he? Is he or isn’t he? As in, will Ricky Hatton fight again or won’t he, and is he training for a comeback or isn’t he?

For a week or so now, if not longer, the rumours have been growing: Hatton will fight again and he has dropped an absolute ton of weight due to working his way back to fighting shape in the gym. Want proof that Hatton is back down to (around) his prime fighting weight? Look at the photo Ricky himself Tweeted yesterday, of him on holiday with his newborn. Hatton not only looks the lightest he’s looked in years, but he looks as though he could be as low as the mid 150’s.

Of course, it may mean nothing more than Hatton has simply had a change of lifestyle and has dropped all that excess weight for health reasons. We don’t know if Hatton will have the urge to fight again simply because he looks once again like a fighter, but Hatton must have pushed himself mightily hard to have shifted something close to around 50-pounds or more. Getting fit for everyday life is one thing, but judging by the Twitter photo, Hatton has been working out with a real purpose.

If the rumours are that and nothing more, I sure wish Hatton himself would come out and say so. But he hasn’t, and there is talk of a return fight with Paulie Malignaggi (and, to a lesser extent, there is talk of a possible Hatton-Amir Khan bout).

With Hatton looking as good as he does, the story of his “comeback” will not go anywhere. At age 33, and after having had a good long rest, Hatton is young enough to come again. And you know you’ll watch, and pay to watch, if “The Hitman” does lace ‘em up again!

Eventually they all come back - so the saying goes in boxing. Why should this former light-welterweight champion of the world be any different?
