China Smith Stops Travis Fulton

03.06.05 - Sarasota, Florida - by M.Glass - Freda Foreman, once boxer, forever daughter of the great George Foreman, and now turned promoter staged a nice card of competitive fights for an enthusiastic crowd. Unfortunately one fight was more competitive than she may have hoped for. One time rising star China Smith (28-2), stumbled but recovered to secure a 2nd round stoppage of game but outclassed Travis Fulton (12-10)

After a forgettable two rounds Smith came out in the third marginally more aggressive but got tagged with a wide-armed bomb and collapsed into the ropes. Smith, surprised but in annoyingly familiar territory shook it off and realized he had to get serious. Far more seriously than his soft body was telling us. Digging for all he had Smith tapped his reserves, walked down Fulton and caught him with a short hook sending him to a knee. An unresponsive Fulton was given the wave by the ref in mid count to an unceremonious chorus of hometown boos.

It doesn’t require deep thought to figure Freda was here to take a hard look at what was left of a once promising career. There are under cards on the horizon in the heavyweight division requiring talent and in Smith’s case offering redemption. China Smith is there but unfortunately it looks like for the taking.

With an overly maligned heavyweight division fighters across the world are thinking they have a shot. Sarasota saw one but it was on a card a couple weeks ago. His name was Oliver McCall not China Smith.
