Tyson Quits In 6th Round!
11.06.05 - By Jeff Bastasini: Incredibly, Mike Tyson quit in the 6th round of his fight against the light-punching Kevin McBride (photo: Tom Casino/Showtime), shortly after being pushed to the canvas near the end of the round. After going down, it looked like Tyson didn't want to get up for some reason. When he finally did get up, he looked like he was a tired old man as he walked slowly to his corner. Tyson then retired on his stool at the end of the round, rather than going out for the next round. Tyson dominated early, yet he was clearly not the same fighter he used to be, as his work rate was poor from the very start of the bout. As the fight progressed, Tyson seemed to grow desparate for a knockout, perhaps knowing that his stamina wouldn't last much longer.

By the 6th round, Tyson looked as if he were fighting in quicksand, as his punches lacked any power, and had no effect on McBride. At that point, Tyson was penalized for head butting McBride intentionally. Previous to that, Tyson had looked to be trying to break McBrides arm while in a clinch. Needless to say, it is another sad point in Tyson's once promising career.
At 38, Tyson doesn't appear to have very many options that would help put a dent in the 30+ million that he still owes to creditors. Tyson said afterwards, "I didn't want to continue. I realised I was getting beat on. I've got the ability to get into the gym and stay in shape but I can't fight no more. Whether Tyson remains true to his word and stays retired, only time will tell. Let's hope for his sake, he decides to stay retired.
