Burke out of Meager showdown

16.06.05 - David Burke has withdrawn from his eliminator for the British lightweight title against Lee Meager on the July 9th Hennessy Sports ‘Trailblazers’ event at the Nottingham Arena. “Unfortunately David has injured his back so has had to stop training,” explained show promoter Mick Hennessy. “This means he will now be unable to box in July. As a result Lee Meager will face another opponent, hopefully in a Championship fight..

“We are currently looking at all the possible options and will be making an announcement shortly.”

Hennessy added: “Depending on the path we take now with Lee, we may look to reschedule the Burke fight for later in the year as it represents the perfect opportunity for Lee to underline his status as Britain’s best lightweight.

“Burke is a talented operator who has held the Commonwealth title, beaten Colin Dunne and only lost to Stefano Zoff for the European on points.”
