In his last three outings, the 6-foot-5, 263-pound Salif has made short work of his opponents. He has stopped all three within two rounds. “I’m waiting for the big boys to fight me. But that is the politics of boxing,” Salif said. “If you want me to fight any of the Top 10 guys, just give me a month’s notice.” “He’s built an impressive record against some tough opponents,” said promoter Dana Pitcher. “All the while, he’s been avoided by many in the upper echelon of the heavyweight division.
Joining Salif on this sure to be exciting card will be former NABF Light Heavyweight Champion Donnell “Tank” Wiggins (23-5-2, 14 KOs) against New Orleans own Carl “Kojack” Handy 19-6-2 (13 KOs) in an eight round light heavyweight match up with significant world title implications .
Wiggins won by TKO at 2:32 of the second round over Norman Johnson, on the June 18 mega-card Johnson Tarver II at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. The opposition, Handy, is a crafty veteran who has boxed the upper echelon of the Cruiserweight and Light Heavyweight divisions. No doubt, this bout is going to be a real hurricane.
Further bolstering the already strong card will be one of greatest boxers to emerge during recent times, former IBF Bantamweight World Champion “The Cincinnati Kid” Tim Austin 25-1-0 (22ko’s).Austin, who fights out of the Don King stable, will fight on the televised portion of the card. Tim, the 1992 Olympic Bronze Medallist, will be campaigning in an eight round contest.
Austin, has all the tools that a fighter needs: power, speed and boxing skills. His power is one of the best in the Super Bantamweight division, and maybe he’s one of the best pound-for-pound fighter’s in all of boxing. It is said by some that he is as great as George “Little Chocolate” Dixon Jesse Joe Laura 9-1-1 (6 KO’s), a crowd-pleasing winner on the “Showdown at the Downs” in April, will go six rounds against the rugged Donnell Logan. In a highly entertaining six round welterweight bout, Dallas Texas’ Lara won by split decision over Marteze Logan, in his last fight.
Dallas’ own “Handsome” Hector Beltran (8-1, 7KO’s) returns to the ring as well after his first professional defeat in a thrilling contest at the “Battle at the Blackham.” On August 6th, he will be boxing in a six round contest.
