Julian Letterlough: Sucked Down The Drain By A Coward

08.07.05 - By Fiona Manning: Former light heavyweight contender was shot dead last night in Reading, Pennsylvania. According to criminal defense attorney Michael L. Marley, Letterlough’s boxing manager, “He was shot in the back by a coward.”

It was a hot night in Reading and Letterlough parked his car on the corner of Cotton and 12th Streets. His back was turned when a man drove by and shot him in the back. According to Marley, the shooting may or may not have been related to the domestic dispute but police were nearby, followed the assailant and shot him. There is no word yet on whether the assailant was fatally injured.

A very shaken Marley told Eastsideboxing, “He was a remarkable guy, Julian. For a guy who spent most of his adult life in prison, he was determined not to go back inside.

“He worked very hard not to wind up back in prison. He worked in factories, he boxed.

“We had our share of arguments, mostly because he couldn’t always be available to box. He needed to work a regular job to support his family. But you know what, he was a good guy who stayed clean.

“Julian Letterlough was sucked down the drain by a coward.”

The fighter is survived by his wife and his son Julian, 15.
