Vernon Forrest Destroys Rios!

17.07.05 - By Chet Mills: Vernon "The Viper" Forrest (36-2, 27 KO's), the Former WBC welterweight champion, returned to the ring in his come back fight, winning by 2nd round knockout over his hopelessly overmatched opponent, Sergio Rios on Saturday night. The fight marked the first time that Forrest had fought in 2 years, since losing to Ricardo Mayorga in July 2003. Forrest, 34, had taken the past two years off to recover from a left shoulder inury, which had prevented him training.. From the opening bell, the fight had mismatch written all over it, as Forrest seemingly punched Rios at will, landing a wide assortment of stingings jabs, left hooks to the head, and body shots. Rios, to his credit, took the punches well, yet it was clear he wouldn't be able to take it for long.

In the 2nd round, the merciless beating finally ended, when Rios went down from a left hook to the head. Rios somehow made it up, however, Forrest immediately connected with two huge left hooks to the head, followed by a right hand that finished the bout, as the referee stepped in and stopped the fight at 2:43 of the 2nd round.
