Chavez Jr. , Paez Jr added to Aug. 12 Sycuan Card

21.07.05 - Two sons of former world champions--Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Jorge Paez Jr.--join undefeated World Boxing Association North American Boxing Association bantamweight champion Jose Aguiniga on the nationally televised boxing card presented by Sycuan Ringside Promotions in association with Zanfer and Top Rank Aug. 12 at Laredo, Texas..

The undefeated Chavez, son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, is in a six-round super lightweight bout while the unbeaten Paez, son of former world champion Jorge Paez, is in a four-round super featherweight fight.

The world-ranked Aguiniga is in the 12-round championship main event defending his NABA 118-pound title against Alejandro Montiel.

Opponents for Chavez and Paez will be determined.

The card will be held in the Laredo Entertainment Center.

Tickets are priced at $20, $30, $40, $60, $100 and $150 with all seats reserved.

Tickets are available at the Laredo Entertainment Center box office Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and through ticketmaster.com

Aguiniga, from Oxnard, Calif., has a record of 28-0 with 14 knockouts and is ranked No. 3 by the International Boxing Federation as a junior featherweight, No. 4 by the WBA as a bantamweight and No. 14 by both the World Boxing Council as a super bantamweight and the World Boxing Organization as a junior featherweight.

Montiel, from Los Mochis, Mexico, has a record of 50-7 with 29 knockouts.

Chavez, from Culiacan, Mexico, has a record of 20-0 with 15 knockouts and has stopped 14 of his past 15 opponents.

Paez, from Mexicali, Mexico, has a record of 4-0 with four knockouts.

The 23-year-old Aguiniga won the WBA NABA bantamweight championship during his most recent outing, June 3 in Oxnard, when he stopped Hugo Ramirez in the eighth round.

Of the 57 fights in which the 34-year-old Montiel has appeared, more than one-half, a total of 29, have been 12-round bouts for world or regional championships.

The 19-year-old Chavez is ranked No. 25 by the WBC among lightweights.

Paez is the son of the former IBF featherweight champion.

The undercard includes two boxers from Laredo, middleweight Gabriel Holquin

(18-4, 6 KOs) in an eight-round bout and lightweight Cesar Holquin (2-1, 1 KO) in a four-round fight. Opponents will be determined.

Other bouts include Valentin Leon (14-9-2, 6 KOs) originally from Culiacan and now living in Colton, Calif., against Austreberto Juarez (2-1, 2 KO) originally from Compandero, Mexico, and now living in Ventura, Calif., in an eight-round mini flyweight fight; Noel Rodriguez (4-0, 3 KOs) of McKinney, Texas, in a six-round lightweight bout against an opponent to be determined; and Salvador Cardenas (10-3, 10 KOs) of Culiacan in a six-round super featherweight fight against an opponent to be determined.

The card will be televised by Telefutura.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions of El Cajon, Calif., is considered to be the

fastest-growing and most dynamic promotional entity in the sport. Sycuan Ringside Promotions made its promotional debut during 2004, but already has or had four world champions and has promoted and presented world title bouts on premium cable networks.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions has many notable boxers in its stable, including former WBO junior featherweight champion Joan Guzman, IBF junior featherweight champ Israel Vazquez and former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz.

Sycuan Ringside Promotions is led by Quiroga; Willie Tucker Sr., senior vice president; Scott Woodworth, vice president of boxing operations; and Michael Marley, vice president of public relations.

Zanfer, based in Tijuana, is the leading boxing promotional firm in Mexico. Headed by Fernando Beltran, Zanfer boasts numerous current, former and future world champions.
