Statement From Golden Boy Promotions Regarding Felix Trinidad
14.01.04 - Based on a recent interview with Felix “Tito” Trinidad’s father, Don Felix Trinidad Sr., it was confirmed that Tito, in fact, has not yet decided to come out of retirement. That same interview also seems to imply that one of the issues being discussed is the amount of money available to Tito.

We are convinced that a second bout between Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad would be one of the most anticipated rematches in the history of the sport and that sufficient monies would be available to satisfy the implied purse demands of $15 million dollars by Mr. Trinidad Sr. Yet rather than discussing purses we feel the single most important fact for this fight to happen is for Tito Trinidad to state that he is coming out of retirement.
In 2003, we were told repeatedly, by the same sources, that Tito is back. In fact, last summer we even started to negotiate the rematch, only to be told a few weeks later by Tito that he in fact is still retired.
As Oscar has indicated before, as much as he would want Tito to come back, he is very respectful of his decision to retire. But when the rumors about Tito’s return surfaced 10 days ago, Oscar immediately reached out to Tito and left several messages, suggesting a meeting between the two.
This fight is not about promoters, managers and trainers; it is about two true warriors, who still have some unfinished business in the ring.
