Weber Out Again As Chavez Foe

15.09.05 - By Jim Amto: Craig Weber of Perrysville, Ohio will not be meeting former great Julio Cesar Chavez as planned on September 17th. Due to a contractual dispute Chavez will be meeting Omaha, Nebraska's James Grover Wiley. The thirty year old Wiley sports a respectable 29-6-1 ledger with 13 knockouts. He has not fought and beat the caliber of opposition that Weber has faced.. In 1999 Wiley was outscored by former champion Greg Haugen. In 2003 a game Wiley was floored six times and taken out by Chris Smith. On November 11, 2004 he met highly regarded Steve Martinez for the Interim NABF Welterweight title and was stopped in the fourth. In his last fight on February 18th of this year he was halted in the fifth round by Luciano Perez.

Weber has lost only once and that was to rugged Rogelio Castaneda. He drew with Castaneda in a return match. Craig holds a decision win over Angel Manfredy and a sixth round knockout over former champion and Chavez conqueror Frankie Randall. Word is that the promoters will pay Weber his full $ 30,000 purse.
