Gatti Decisions Branco!

25.01.04 - Arturo Gatti defeated Gianluca Branco on points to win a 12 round unanimous decision and the vacant WBC super lightweight title on Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Despite losing, Branco was able to hit Gatti with clean shots throughout much of the fight. Gatti looking slow and old, relied almost exclusively on his jab, and only on rare occasions using his right hand. Gatti, who broke his right hand twice against Ward, appeared to injure it again in the fifth when he landed a punch on Branco's hip and winced. In the 7th round, Gatti seemed to re-injure his right hand, and after that, he was basically a one armed fighter.In the tenth round, Gatti landed a huge left hook that knocked Branco down. However, Branco immediately got up and appeared to get the better of Gatti over the last two rounds. Final scores were 116-111, 116-111 and 115-112 for Gatti.
