World Boxing Council News

01.11.05 - From WBC President Jose Sulaiman: The devastation caused in Cancun by Hurricane Wilma is the reason for the postponement of the NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS that the World Boxing Council had scheduled for December 6, 2005. The new date is January 31, 2006, along with an extraordinary world title boxing card on January 28..

The NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS ceremony will be undoubtedly the greatest event in world boxing history, and the support of the international boxing community along with the Mexican society will make this ceremony even more memorable, as well as a part of the magnificent efforts to re-launch this paradisiacal, beautiful and famous beach resort.

Besides several champions who had already confirmed their participation, the World Boxing Council is receiving the absolute confirmation of many other great champions and all of them will turn this event into the most unforgettable constellation of boxing stars that has ever gotten together in the annals of our sport.

We greatly appreciate the ratification of our sponsors, our Board of Governors, all the international boxing community, along with our champions, and very especially, the State and City authorities of Quintana Roo and Cancun, Mexico.
