Maskaev Decisions Sam

November 12, Hamburg, Germany: By Per Ake Persson: US-based Russian heavy Oleg Maskaev clearly outscored Sinan Samil Sam over twelve and won the WBC Intl title. This was also a WBC eliminator (exact status will be determined next week it seems). There were no knockdowns but Maskaev looked unsteady at the end of the fourth and shaken in the sixth. But after that he began moving a little more and got in position to fire his fine right hand as Sam plodded forward. Sam seemed to run out of ideas on what to do and attempted to headbutt Maskaev in the 11th. Referee Frank Garza deducted a point from Sam for this. Sam showed what a good chin he has in holding up all the way. It was scored 116-112, 118-110 and 118-111.

Sebastian Sylvester retained the EBU 160 lb title on scores of 116-111, 115-112 and 116-111 over Italian Lorenzo Di Giacomo. No knockdowns and a messy fight that saw Di Giacomo getting a point deducted for deliberately spitting out his mouthpiece..

Frenchman Jimmy Colas was too strong for Alexander Sipos and won the vacant EU 154 lb title on scores of 97-93, 98-92 and 96-94.

Local middle Mahir Oral won a split call over Frenchman Christophe Karagoz over eight.

Middleweight Alexander Abraham won on wide scores over Sylvain Gomis from France also over eight. These two have previously fought a draw.

The show was promoted by Sauerland Event at the Sporthalle and there were about 3500 fans in attendance.
