Euro Boxing Roundup: Lucas-Kessler, Vitali Klitschko, more...

25.11.05 - By Per Ake Persson: EX-WBC supermiddle champ Eric Lucas is heading to Denmark this weekend to finalize the deal for a fight against WBA ruler Mikkel Kessler in January. With Lucas is trainer Bernard Baige, fitness and conditional coach Alain Delorme and Interbox representative David Messier. Lucas will also check out training facilities and the fight venue; the Brondby Hall.. Meanwhile Interbox associate Chris Ganescu is in Romania to work on a show for the teamīs Romanian fighters, Lucien Bute, Adrian Diaconou and Jojo Dan, early next year. All three fight next Friday (Dec 2) in Montreal.

Spanish superbantam prospect Kiko Martinez had no problems with Slovakian Peter Balasz and won on a first round knockout last night in Dolores. Norwegian lightheavy Kim Jensen stopped Stefan Stanko in the second on the undercard.

Former WBC heavy champ Vitali Klitschko is interested in getting involved with politics back home in Ukraine. Vitali didnīt rule out running for mayor of Kiev in the March 2006 elections at the press conference in Kiev November 25 rule - he did however rule out all comeback plans.

Polish heavy Shamek Saleta, returns to action after the loss to Oliver McCall December in a scheduled eight-rounder in Ostroleka.

The WBA I/C title that sort of replaced the WBA Intīl belt will be mainly an European affair in the future handled from Nicaragua by WBA official Renzo Bagnariol. In Europe there are five supervisors appointed. They are Humbert Furgoni, France, Gualtiero Becchetti, Italy, Artur Ellensohn, Germany, Andre Fontjin, the Netherlands and Mariana Borissova, Bulgaria and the UK.

Mariusz Cendrowski defends the TWBA 160 lb title December 17. Where isnīt decided yet but the promoter, Boxing Europe, is looking at Warzaw (Poland).

Zapir Gereev won the inaugural EBF 147 lb title yesterday in Berlin with an eight round stoppage of Turk Mehmet Karaca. The show at the Columbia Club drew a full house of about 700 people.
