Tyson Vs. Holyfield III - Why Not?!

14.12.05 - By Aidan Monaghan: Lets just cut to the chase. Both Tyson and Holyfield have at least one good fight left in each of them. Part one of their rivalry was one of the most memorable bouts ever. And part two was one of the most widely viewed fights in pay per view history and left the public wanting a decisive winner which never materialized. And the truth is, both guys could use another pay day (Tyson with his debt issues and Holyfield with enormous child support obligations)..

Lets be honest, the heavyweight division has been in need of some serious star power lately. And with the recent retirement of Vitali Klitschko, it's one remaining star who was also recognized as it's legitimate champion, things have gotten worse.

Some serious fight fans might shake their heads in dismay at the thought of a third Tyson/Holyfield bout, but the rest of them - in addition to the media and general public at large - would likely be fascinated by a third bout between two of the divisions all time greats.

At least Holyfield and probably Tyson would still like to fight again. Although neither fighter is near their prime ability, they have both declined to comparable levels and would be of relatively equal abilities. Plus, a bout against each other would allow them one final taste of glory and money, without having to take a beating at the hands of younger and better fighters.

Failure to secure this bout represents the biggest missed opportunity in the sport and could serve as one last temporary bridge for the boxing public, until the younger fighters can one day resolve their roles in the heavyweight division.
