Briggs Named "Comeback Fighter of the Year"
11.01.06 - Former linear champion, and #8 ranked heavyweight in the world according to the just-released WBC rankings, Shannon “Brooklyn” Briggs, 45-4-1 (39 KOs), has been voted the “Comeback Fighter of the Year” by the Boxing Press Group, an international coalition of over 600 boxing “magazine, newspaper and internet website authors, beat writers and boxing leaders.”
After fighting (and winning) five times in three years, Briggs had a sensational 2005, scoring five knockouts including a seventh round demolition of former WBO champion Ray Mercer, a TKO 3 over formerly undefeated Abraham Okine, and a KO 1 over formerly undefeated Luciano Zolyone. He also picked up the WBC Fecarbox Heavyweight Title along the way.
Briggs intends to remain busy while clamoring for a world title shot or a high-profile showdown with a top contender. He is scheduled to face Ohio’s Chris Koval at the Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami, Florida, for the NABA and USBA Heavyweight Championships on January 27.
The Boxing Press Group was founded in 2004 by boxing writer Greg Goodrich.
