"It is a thrill and an honor to become a part of the World Boxing Media's Pro Boxing Poll," said Lederman. "This is something sorely needed in our sport and I will help the organization in any way I can so that a fair and honorable ratings system is established and maintained with the highest amount of integrity."
Lederman is one of a number of journalists world-wide who have become voting members of the new poll which debuts in February. The new members are from the United States, Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Italy and Panama. They include Kevin Taylor, owner/editor of Britishboxing.net, Anwar Richardson of the Tampa Tribune, Mike C. Ryan, owner/editor of Australia's Fighter-online.com, Stefano Slomma of Italy's Mondoboxe.com and Juan Carlos Tapia of Panama's Lomejordelboxeo.com. Staff writers from top websites such as Doghouseboxing.com, BraggingRightsCorner.com and TigerBoxing have also joined. It is anticipated that many more will be joining the international effort in the coming days.
The objective of the WBM Pro Boxing Poll is to recognize the achievements of deserving professional boxers by giving voice to boxing journalists around the world. The ratings will be published monthly at the new website aptly named WorldBoxingMedia.com.
The WBM Pro Boxing Poll will not name WBM champions or be used to determine mandatory challengers. However, there are plans for an annual awards ceremony where the best in each weight class will be honored with a deserving "Best of the Best" world title belt. The inaugural awards ceremony will take place in late January or early February, 2007 to honor "The Best of the Best: 2006."
Boxing journalists from around the world are urged to visit www.WorldBoxingMedia.com for information on how to become a voting member.
Boxers, industry professionals and boxing fans alike can look forward to the debut of the poll in February.
