Koshimoto wins shocking Decision over Chi

30.01.06 - By Jeff Bastasini: WBC featherweight champion, In Jin Chi lost his title on Sunday at the Fukuoka Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium, losing a 12-round split decision to Takashi Koshimoto, from Japan. For the 35-year old Koshimoto, it was the case of having too much speed, combined with a rock iron defense, that was the key to the victory over South Korean slugger Chi (to 30-3-1, 18 Kos). Fighting behind a lighting fast jab, Koshimoto (39-1-2, 17 Kos) was able to fight off Chi’s furious exchanges, keeping him at a distance, where he was unable to utilize his usual devastating inside work. It was Koshimoto’s second shot at a title, having lost on his previous attempt in 2000 to Freddie Norwood, losing by 9th round knockout to the hard punching American. Judges scores were: 114-113, 115-112 for Koshimoto and 116-111, for Chi.
