Scott Hirsch Stands by His Man

05.02.06 - By Troy Ondrizek: What started out a few days ago as jubilation for Shannon Briggs with the potential fight with David Tua; has turned into an ugly affair with Dino Duva. An argument has sprung up between Duva, the promoter of Samuel Peter, and Shannon Briggs. Scott Hirsch is Shannon's manager and is in the middle of the ruckus himself. Duva claimed that he never offered Shannon a specific fight with Peter, or ever went around Shannon's management about offering him a fight. Scott Hirsch stands by Shannon and their statements that Duva is the one lying. Scott had this to say about the whole ordeal.

"I wasn't on the conversation when Dino and Shannon spoke, and I'm not going to pretend I was but I believe Shannon 100% and I think he's worth at least $600,000. Dino did call him and email him without me and only he knows his intentions. It's obvious we disagree as to Shannon's value and that both sides are far apart. I hold no ill will towards Dino and don't know why he'd attack Shannon in such a personal manner. I just hope this very ugly, very public episode is over."

This little spat has turned a once promising scenario for the heavyweight division and the fighters involved, into a asinine ugly personal affair. Hopefully for all involved this can be worked out, and their disputes settled in the ring, were they should be. If the fireworks in the ring are as good as the ones outside, then this will be a fight of the year candidate.
