Ricky Will Burn Arthur Out

12.02.06 - Ricky Burns will throw a spanner into the works when he takes on Alex Arthur for his British, Commonwealth and European Super-Featherweight titles this Saturday (18 February). Burns, who backs up his ring career as a car mechanic, aims to stall Arthur's dreams of a world title fight by beating the flash Edinburgh star at the Meadowbank Stadium..

And the unbeaten Coatbridge boxer could make it a reality following his sensational wins over British Lightweight Champion Graham Earl and 2002 Commonwealth Games Champion Haider Ali.

"I can beat Arthur and next Saturday I know I will crowned the new British, Commonwealth and European Champion," proclaimed Burns.

"Winning this fight means everything to me and this is the chance of a lifetime so I won't let it pass me by without given Arthur the fight of his life,"

He added, "Arthur so flash at times he thinks he's a Ferrari but really he's just an old banger probably a Ford Escort would describe him best,"

"They might be okay to run around town in but as soon as it gets on the motorway and enters the fast lane they can't keep up with the newer cars and the engine will eventually burn out until it stutters to a halt on the hard shoulder,"

"It will be the same in our fight, I won't be looking to knock him out early, I want to take him down the road for as long as possible and then watch him burn himself out as he tries to keep up with the fast pace I'm going to set,"

"I know that he will start to slow the longer the fight goes and like the Escort, he will pack-up when he goes back into his corner."
