Since then, Diaz has had seven impressive victories in a row. Those victories have come against decent up and coming opponents, with one or two loses, and an average of 10-15 victories. His latest victory, a TKO in the fifth, was in February 2006, against Russell Jordan (12-2).
Smith, 31, although both shorter and older than Diaz, he can make it up with heart and determination, which he has shown before in his past fights, most notably in his grueling 5th round stoppage loss to Sharmba Mitchell in March 2005. Currently, Smith is ranked 13th by the WBA, and has been working his way back slowly since being defeated in back to back losses to David Estrada and Sharmba Mitchell in 2005. Smith's last bout in October 2005, he defeated Tomas Barrientes (27-8) by 5th rd TKO, a fight where he won the interim NABA welterweight title. Previously, Smith had held that NABA title from 2002 to 2005, before losing it to Sharmba Mitchell.
Look for both Diaz and Smith to put on a good show. They are two hungry fighters, looking to move up in the busy and tough welterweight division.
