Frank Warren makes double Amateur swoop
03.08.06 - By Mark Pickering: Frank Warren’s Sports Network has announced the acquisition of two promising amateurs, adding Scotland’s Kenny Anderson and England’s Anthony Crolla to the British stable. Anderson, 23, triumphed in the Light-Heavyweight category at this year’s Commonwealth Games in March, winning Gold in a points win over Nigeria’s Adura Olalehin.
The Edinburgh native, who traditionally competes as a super-middleweight, recently outlined audacious plans to become Scotland’s first-ever fighter to win British and World titles at his natural weight.
Ex-WBO super-middleweight world champion Steve Collins and former WBO World Middleweight Champion Nigel Benn were both in attendance last week at a press conference to formally announce Anderson joining the professional ranks.
He has enlisted the assistance of trainer Peter Harrison, father and coach of WBO Featherweight Champion Scott, to assist his quest for domestic and international gold.
Manchester’s Crolla, held the ABA lightweight title last year and fights out of FOX ABC in Manchester.
The 19-year old is due to be trained by former WBU light-middleweight champion Anthony Farnell.
Both prospects are expected to make their professional debuts later this year on a Sports Network card.
