Two Titles At Stake September 3 in Nairobi, Kenya
14.8.2006: Just five days before a show in Vejle, Denmark on September 8, Risum Boxing is co-promoting another card, thousands of miles away. On September 3 in Nairobi, Kenya, Risum Boxing and JabJab promotions will stage a six-bout event at the Nyayo National Stadium headlined by WBF Intercontinental super featherweight champion David Kiilu (24-7-2, 12 KOs) defending his title against Tanzanian Venance Mponji (12-9-2, 6 KOs)..
Kiilu won the WBF title last December, when he convincingly out-pointed another Tanzanian, Obote Ameme, and he has since been looking forward to defending the belt in front of his many Nairobi fans. September 3 will be the day, and Kiilu is aiming to make a good impression and prove that he is ready for yet another title fight on the European continent.
The semi-final of the show will see Risum Boxing’s undefeated Super Middleweight prospect Samson “The Hammer” Onyango (9-0, 6 KOs) square off with countryman Mohammed Orungi (4-7, 2 KOs according to BoxRec) over ten rounds for the vacant Kenyan national title. While his record is somewhat modest, Orungi is coming off a good win over East and Central African champion Shadrack Kipruto on August 5, and will not be a pushover for the hard-hitting Onyango.
This will be the first title fight for "The Hammer", who has so far swept aside all domestic opposition with relative ease. Should he manage to defeat Orungi, a shot at some kind of international title could be the next step.
The show will be televised throughout Kenya by KBC1.
