Klitschko Speaks of Rhetorical Rematch with Lewis

30.08.06 - Aaron King - UKRAINE -- Former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko said he would make a return to boxing if Lennox Lewis agreed to do the same. The Associated Press reported that Klitschko said to a crowd of fans on Tuesday in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, “If Lewis comes back, I will fight by all means.”

Yuriy Nesterenko, a Klitschko spokesman, was quick to point out that the fight was improbable, if not utterly out of the question, saying that the match “will never take place.” He may even have shown some disapproval with the former champion when he suggested that he concentrate more on rehabbing his injuries and less on making a comeback.

He added, “People love Vitali and want him to come back to sports. That's why he said what people wanted to hear from him.”

Nesterenko also said that Lewis had contributed “everything that he could” during his 26 years in the sport.
