Skelton Makes Audley Harrison Defence

02.10.06 - By Mark Pickering: Matt Skelton, 39, will make the maiden defence of his Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship against fellow Brit Audley Harrison on December 9th at Londonís Excel Arena. The Bedford banger scored a unanimous victory over arch rival Danny Williams in July to win the crown. Former Olympic champion Harrison, 33, arrived in the pro ranks as Britainís latest heavyweight hope and has failed to live up to his billing. The 250-pounder fell from his Olympic glory after adopting a cautious and overly conservative style in addition to a facing a serious of unheralded opponents.

The London native, who now fights out of Las Vegas, registered an abundance of lacklustre performances and suffered defeats to compatriot Danny Williams and the durable Dominic Guinn.

However, the former Commonwealth Championís ailing fortunes halted when he quickly returned to action and recorded a third-round knockout win over Andrew Greeley in June.

Now, Harrison has a shot at redeeming himself on British soil and restoring the faith of a nation which embraced his Gold medal triumph in his latest quest for notoriety in the heavyweight division.

The all-English affair headlines an intriguing fight card which featureís Scott Harrisonís highly anticipated return to the squared circle and Amir Khanís first eight-round contest.
