Briggs V Adamek II – The Result

07.10.06 - CHICAGO – In what has proven to be another tough and memorable contest Paul “Firepower” Briggs has been defeated by the slimmest of margins by Poland’s Tomasz Adamek for the WBC light-heavyweight World Title. The fight, which went the full twelve rounds was scored, 113 to 113, 114 to112 and 115 to 111 to Adamek at the Allstate Arena, Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Having downed Adamek in the first round Briggs went on to mount a tough challenge in a hard fought contest. In a fight that eclipsed their 2005 match, both fighters traded blow after blow in one of the most heroic boxing contests of recent memory. In the words of one ringside commentator “Paul Briggs’ Australian fans should be very, very proud.”

Paul “Firepower” Briggs prepared for the fight with legendary Australian trainer Johnny Lewis. This was his first title fight using his new “Firepower” ring name, signaling his new arrangement with Firepower Technology and the move away from his old kick boxing moniker “Hurricane”.
