Scott Lawton Honoured with Civic Reception

13.10.06 - Scott Lawton today became the first ever boxer to be honoured by the City of Stoke-on-Trent. The Lord Mayor, Councillor Jean Edwards, hosted a civic reception at the city’s council offices in honour of Scott’s achievement in securing the English lightweight title and presented the local champion with a commemorative plate which had been manufactured by the famous local firm Spode. Representatives of Impact Boxing along with Scott’s family also attended the reception.

Afterwards Councillor Edwards said: “This is to recognise the great achievement that Scott has made in the boxing ring and he thoroughly deserves it. He’s working hard to bring more recognition to the city and we are delighted with his progress so far.”

“Scott is a lovely lad as are all of his family, he is a real credit to the city. I would just like to wish him every success in the future and hope to honour him again when he wins a British title.”

Lawton, who is now the highest achieving boxer ever to have come from North Staffordshire, added: “I was born and brought up in the area and I am very proud of my background. I have always said that I want to give something back to the people of the area and will continue to do whatever I can. It’s a wonderful honour to meet the Lord Mayor and receive this award and I feel very privileged.”

Scott Lawton is next scheduled to fight on 24th November at the Kings Hall, Stoke but an opponent has yet to be announced.

Tickets for the event can be obtained from the Impact Boxing ticket-line on: 0845 156 7168
