Euro Boxing: Aguzum defeats Makaringe, Sam beats Mirovic, More
By Per Ake Persson: November 10, Hamburg, Germany: Alpaslan Aguzum won the WBC Intīl welterweight title by split decision over South African Joseph Makaringe at the Sporthalle in Hamburg after a tough fight. Two judges scored the fight 116-112 and 115-113 for Alpaslan while the third judge had it 115-112 for Makaringe. It was a very even and hard to score contest. Aguzum boxed on the move and scored with the cleaner punches while Makaringe chased. The South African had a point deducted in the eleventh round for a low blow..
WBC Intīl heavy champ Sinan Samil Sam retained the title with a unanimous points win over Australian Bob Mirovic. The judges scored the fight 118-110, 117-112 and 117-107 in favor of Sam. There were no knockdowns but one judge was generous with a 10-8 round. Mirovic was strong early on and had Sam shaken a few times but faded and was close to being stopped in the eleventh.
Goran Gogic knocked out Adnan Serin in the eighth and final round of a solid matchup at heavyweight. Gogic controlled the action most of the way but was hurt in the sixth. Serin went all out in the last round but was outpunched and eventually koīd by a left hook.
Middleweight Mahir Oral knocked out American Genaro Andujar in the fourth. Oral headlines the next Arena promotion December 15 also in Hamburg when he defends the EU title against Italian Domenico Spada. At stake is also the vacant WBC Intīl title.
Heavyweight Steffen Kretschmann made his prodebut but had nothing to beat in Slovakian Michal Roman, who went down and out after only 52 seconds of the first.
