Executive Council Will Decide Barrera's WBC Fate and the Possibility of All Russian Heavyweight Unification Fight
02.01.07 - Ricardo Lois, BoxingConfidential.com: Los Angeles – With Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Juan Manuel Marquez apparently a reality (I say reality, because in boxing, nothing is real until the opponents are in the ring and the bell sounds), one of the burning questions on the mind of boxing fans is: will the W.B.C. now strip Marco Antonio Barrera of his Super Featherweight Championship since he will not be fighting mandatory opponent Manny Pacquiao? "That decision has not been made," stated Sulaiman direct from Mexico City, Mexico, "that will be decided by the Executive- Council and you can expect a decision by the end of this week." ..

Golden Boy Promotions learned from promotional fumbles in 2006 and minded their P's and Q's when it came to Barrera's W.B.C. Championship.
"Golden Boy let us know about the Marquez-Barrera fight and the Executive Council will decide if Barrera will defend the Championship or be stripped. Manny Pacquiao's complicated promotional situation will be considered when the decision is made."
Although Samuel Peters and James Toney will fight this Saturday night on Showtime for a mandatory shot at W.B.C. Heavyweight Champion Oleg Maskaev, many in boxing have been calling for a unification bout between Maskaev and I.B.F. King Wladimir Klitschko.
"Though the winner of Peters vs. Toney is the mandatory challenger to Maskaev, if Maskaev would like to file a petition to fight Klitschko, he may do that and the Governing Council will make a decision."
I am sure the sanctioning fee of a Maskaev vs. Klitschko bout could look very enticing to the Governing Council and boxing fans might get heavyweight unification in 2007, by hook or by crock.
