Michael Sprott puts his money where his mouth is

18.01.07 - Football mad Michael Sprott is putting his money where his mouth is - by backing his team Reading to reach the Champions League and himself to defeat Audley Harrison. The European Union heavyweight champion is as long as 11-2 to topple Harrison on February 17 at Wembley Arena. And his local team, the Royals, are even bigger odds to gatecrash the Premiership top four and qualify for the richest club tournament in the world. But Sprott has had a massive wager on the double of him winning and Reading doing the business - and is confident of netting tens of thousands of pounds..

" Reading have been the shock package of the top flight this season, and I'm the shock package of the heavyweight division," said Sprott.

" Harrison may have beaten Danny Williams, but one swallow doesn't make a summer, and I can't understand why the bookies are so in love with him.

" People forget I've gone to Germany - the hardest place to get a decision - and won two titles, while all Harrison has done so far is beat up on an under-prepared fighter coming to the end of his career.

" He didn't perform when he fought Danny Williams the first time, he didn't perform against Dominick Guinn and he won't perform against me."

Former British and Commonwealth champion Sprott, 32, also had a tongue in cheek dig at Sylvester Stallone for backing Premiership big boys Everton against Reading on Sunday.

" Because of Rocky, I always thought that Sly backed the underdog, and he should really have been cheering for Reading," said Sprott.

" But I know he'll be supporting me against Harrison, because although I've had some ups and downs in my career, unlike Audley, I always come out fighting."

Harrison-Sprott tops the Wembley Arena bill, with Graham Earl's WBO interim lightweight title fight against Michael Katsidis chief support. Amir Khan is also in action, alongside Ross Minter, Eddie Corcoran, Tommy Saunders, Don Broadhurst and debutants Vinny Mitchell and Derek Chisora.
