Steve “USS” Cunningham granted immediate rematch by IBF

PHILADELHIA (January 23, 2007)—The IBF ordered an immediate rematch to cruiserweight, Steve “USS” Cunningham on Tuesday surrounding the events of the November 25th bout in Warsaw, Poland where Krzysztof Wlodarczyk won a split decision to capture the title. Cunningham was granted the rematch on the grounds of that a post-fight urinalysis was not given to either fight as was agreed upon in a pre-fight rules meeting. That also was a violation of an IBF rule that stipulates a post-fight drug test for all championship bout..

“I am very happy with the decision.” said Cunningham upon hearing the news. “We knew we were wronged in Poland and I am glad that IBF took the time and did their due diligence to see the matter through. I feel I won the first fight and the second time around I will prove it in a more definitive fashion. I have been training since I returned from Poland. I look forward to rematch.”

Negotiations for the rematch will start immediately.
